Stupid Girl by Cindy Miles
Publication date: May 13th 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Only fools fall in love…

After her senior year of high school leaves behind nothing but heartache, Olivia Beaumont is sure of this: She’s no stupid girl. She sets out for Winston College, promising herself that she will remain focused on her first and only love – astronomy. But all it takes is cocky sophomore Brax Jenkins and an accidental collision with a football, to throw her entire year off course.

A quick-tempered Southie who escaped the inner city streets of Boston to pitch for Winston, Brax is known to play way more fields than just the baseball diamond. So, when his name is drawn to take part in his fraternity’s hazing dare, Brax eagerly accepts the mission to take Olivia’s virginity. But he doesn’t plan on falling hard for the sweet and sassy Texas girl who sees right through his bad-boy persona.

As Olivia and Brax battle their feelings for each other, echoes of the past year begin to surface. A boy who once turned Olivia’s whole world upside down reappears, and “harmless” pranks wreak havoc. Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: fall in love.

What to Read Next...

From Cindy Miles, bestselling new adult author of STUPID GIRL, comes the next installment of her blockbuster Stupid in Love series – STUPID BOY.

Brax Jenkins and Olivia Beaumont are the most envied couple at Winston College—but the so-called “virginity dare,” orchestrated by Brax’s old fraternity, almost tore them apart. Now, a new dare is taking shape, and it’s sure to set the campus ablaze with crazy new rumors and chaos.

Winston’s “It Girl” Harper Bell isn’t just president of Alpha Delta Phi—she’s also a master at keeping her ugly past a secret. So, when the Kappas’ dare hits closer to home for her more than anyone realizes, she devises a competition of her own as payback. Three sorority sisters will seek out a notorious bad boy, train him to be the perfect boyfriend, seduce him almost to the point of no return, and promptly—and publicly—break his heart. Always up for a challenge, Harper targets the biggest player she can find: Brax’s wickedly handsome foster brother Kane McCarthy.

But, Harper discovers there’s much more to Kane than girls, games, and partying. His easy smile belies the quiet, old soul reflected in his deep brown eyes. All it takes is one night, one secret laid bare, and one kiss from Kane to shift Harper’s world on its axis. Suddenly, the girl who’s always walked a straight and narrow path can’t think of anything else except losing control.

- Books to Movie Discussion -
by Cindy Miles

I love books. But I love movies, too. Combine the two? WOW! I’m THERE! Of course, there are times when the two clash: you like the book better, or the movie didn’t do the book justice. That sucks! There are just so many wonderful, fine details you find in a novel that just can’t cross over into a movie, not to mention the fact that when a reader engages in a story, they perceive things, even in a slight form, different from another reader. But I do love when it comes together!

I adore all of the Harry Potter books. I ADORE all of the Harry Potter movies. A-DORE! I think that while there is so much contained in the books, so many fine details and magic, the movies really did do the books justice. There absolutely couldn’t have been found a more perfect Harry Potter. A more perfect Ronald Weasley, or Hermoine Grainger. There just couldn’t, in my eyes. Professor Snape? Couldn’t have been anyone other than Alan Rickman. Absolute magic in my eyes.

JAWS. I read the book (much to my grandmother’s dismay) and loved it. The movie? Well it was the very first summer blockbuster, and for a reason. Classic fabulousness, that’s what. Yes, it varies from the book. But it did so in ways that didn’t bother me. Not at all. Those characters came to life on the big screen, and Sheriff Brody, Quint, and Matt Hooper couldn’t have been more perfect. My son and I have movie quote wars constantly, and JAWS is always one of our go-to’s. ☺

THE SHINING. Good Lord! So perfect! LOVED the book. I mean Stephen King is by far one of my heroes! The movie was a thriller that still gets me to this day.

What I’d like to see be made into a movie? Lately, I’ve read BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by April Genevieve Tucholke and man, would I love to see that to film. It’s a great book that really stuck in my head. I’m reading the sequel now, BETWEEN THE SPARK AND THE BURN. And probably MRS. PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN by Ransom Riggs. AWESOME BOOK! That’d be a cool movie, too!

Guest Post: Giraffe wall decals: the animal with a long neck

Today I bring you a guest post from a really neat site that sells wall decals. I've always wanted one of these. They are great for kids and adults alike. Enjoy!

Giraffe wall decals: the animal with a long neck
Among several types of wall decals, the giraffe wall decals are very popular with nursery children, teenagers, those children who stay in crèches, and even with the parents. These wall decals are available in many vibrant colors, and different textures, and these wall decals can be available in single giraffe designs, or as a part of an entire zoo story, or a fairy tale giraffe story. A giraffe is an animal which is known for its height, and ling neck. So children are often fond of staring at the giraffe wall decals for long hours when they can imagine that they will also grow in height like the giraffe.  wallstickerscool

Sale and the measurement of the giraffe wall decals:
Giraffe wall decals can be available in several web portals, and also in offline stores. During special seasons, or during festivals, these decals are available at an enviable rate of discount. Usually the size of the giraffe printed wall decals can range like the following:
  • X 126 inch
  • 48 inch
  • 36 inch
  • 8 inch x 10 inch
  • L
  • X
  • 46 inch
  • 10 inch and many more.
There are several notable paint companies in both UK and USA, which have different segments for painting and installing giraffe printed decals in the rooms of people. They have their reputed brand of customers who want particular type of giraffe wall decals, wither for importing these for their homes, or for exporting them to some of their friends abroad.

These giraffe wall decals are easy to remove and these also enhance their creativity, and these stickers have long-necked animated cute and funny giraffes printed on them. Plus these giraffe wall decals are not made up of any toxic material. For normal painting on walls, children can have an aversion or an allergy to the wall paints, but these wall decals are highly non-toxic, and they convert the simple room of the kids into a dream world rich with elements of fantasy.

Special playground collection of giraffe wall stickers:
Giraffe wall decals are available in special playground collection, and these are very good not only for houses and nursery schools, but also for colleges, roadside eateries, restaurants, and the infant wards in hospitals. The best fact about these giraffe wall decals is that, they can be installed on the walls very easily, and they can also be removed very easily. It is one of the most prominent features of this giraffe printed wall decals that they also act as growth charts for the children. Just like the giraffe which grows to be the tallest animal, we must also tell our children if they eat and sleep properly, then they will also grow long and strong as the giraffe. I remember one of the daughters of my friend, Sarah, saying to her mom,
“Mom, just see the giraffe’s long head, and the neck. I feel like touching it. But for that I have to grow in height.”
And my friend was ready to reply with a quick smile:
“Then you must take all the medicines timely. You must eat the porridge and do our homework. Then I shall give you more giraffe wall decals for your play-room.”
And she kept her promise. Now her daughter has an enviable collection of the following giraffe wall decals:
  • Giraffe standing within a cage inside a zoo. There are rows of blossoms all scattered around the giraffe.
  • There is a wall decal in fluorescent colors- the giraffe is trying to feed its young one. Purple, lavender and pink background and floral prints in white and red are used in this decal.
  • There is also a giraffe wall decal in one of her living rooms. It is entirely on black and white. The borders of black and white are marked with silver lining, and there is also a step to climb and measure the growth chart. My friend said that this last one was gifted to her by her pediatrician.
  • 1 giraffe looks small, and it is available in 14 inch, and the tall one measures about 56 inch. The entire background and foreground is textured with grass bushes and shrubs, and the picture portrays that the giraffe is eating the grass.
Vinyl coated giraffe wall decals can also be attached to the private kitchen of the children, and also in  the balconies, to create a desired jungle or wild natural effect.

Check out their website! (also @ )There are so many amazing decals to choose from.

The best of this year’s book to film adaptations!

Today I bring you a fun guest post about book to film adaptations. The guest post writer wishes to remain anonymous. Enjoy!

The best of this year’s book to film adaptations!

Book to film adaptations always cause a stir -When done well, movies can bring books to life, fleshing out the characters and providing new and interesting interpretations.

If you’re on the lookout for new DVD releases based on your favorite books, you should have plenty of choice. This year has seen a bumper crop of films based on novels, and here are some of the best.

Labor Day

In January 2014, ‘Labor Day’ hit the big screen. Starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, it is based on a Joyce Maynard book of the same name. Directed by Jason Reitman, the movie focuses on a teenage boy and his depressed, single mother. They encounter an escaped convict, who manages to come across as both intimidating and vulnerable. Winslet is superb as the anguished mother in this unlikely tale of romance and Brolin puts in a strong performance too.

Winter's Tale

‘Winter’s Tale’, which was released in February 2014, also received critical praise. Based on the 1983 novel by Mark Helprin, it is set in the early 1900s and centers on a gang member called Peter Lake. While burgling a house, he meets a beautiful woman. However, after falling for her, he discovers she is dying from consumption. From this point on, things take a supernatural turn. Starring Colin Farrell, Jessica Brown Findlay and Russell Crowe, the movie was directed by Akiva Goldsman.

The Hundred-Foot Journey

August 2014 saw the release of ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’. Based on a book by Richard C Morais, the film follows the story of an Indian family who move to France, where they open a restaurant across the street from a Michelin-rated eatery. There then ensues a fierce rivalry between the two establishments. Starring Dame Helen Mirren and produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, the movie proved a box office success.

The Giver

Also hitting screens in August 2014 was ‘The Giver’. Based on a 1993 children’s novel by Lois Lowry, this chilling tale is set in a society that at first appears utopian, but gradually reveals itself to be anything but - It follows a boy named Jonas, who discovers the dark truths of his community’s past. Directed by Phillip Noyce, it stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Swift.

Whether you’ve read the novels on which these films are based or not, the movies are well worth a watch. There are many titles made into films each year, the big screen is your oyster, so get out there and do some research!

She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she’d left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.

Sexy and intense, Jaxis in Calla’s business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn't give them her mom.

Stay With Me Teaser 1As I lay there, trying to swallow a loud, obnoxious yawn, I remembered something he’d said when we first met, about life being too short. I imagined he had firsthand experience with shortened lives while he was serving. That mentality came from experience. I got that now. Could even understand it, but there was something I didn’t understand.
“Why?” I asked.
There was a beat. “Why what?”
Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say.
A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here.
But then he moved.
Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.”
“You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked.
“You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out.
His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.”
I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed.
Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me.
Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe?
“Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.”
He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years.
I felt cared for . . . cherished.
Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.
